He was the loving husband of the late Elsa Schuler Green, with whom he had shared 33 years of marriage at the time of her passing. He was born in Philadelphia and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. John spent his 43-year career with the Pennsylvania Railroad, then Penn Central and Conrail as a clerk, traveling auditor, systems manager, and ultimately assistant vice president.
John was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Exton. He was a founding member of the church's maintenance group, fondly known as the Amigos, with whom he shared his many stories, political opinions and expert advice on any topic at hand. John was known for his generosity for projects for the church or for those in need of help. He enjoyed a special relationship with the Amish community, and would be their means of transportation when it was needed. He will be greatly missed by his family, his church family and his many friends. He is survived by his sons, John M. Green and his wife, Angie Wang, of Berkeley, Calif., and James L. Green and his wife, Marianne, of Frederick, Md; and by grandchildren, James, Matthew, Emily and Samuel.
A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 20, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 104 S. Village Ave., Exton, PA 19341, where family and friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m.Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church at the above address.
